David Nalley, Head of Open Source Strategy and Marketing, Amazon Web Services

David Nalley is the Head of Open Source Strategy and Marketing at AWS. David is a recovering sysadmin who has spent nearly two decades involved in open source. David also currently serves as the President of the Apache Software Foundation.

Mark Paluch, Spring Data Project Lead, VMWARE

Mark is a Spring Data project lead at VMware. He has a strong focus on reactive infrastructure and works on various Spring Data modules such as MongoDB, Redis, R2DBC, and Apache Cassandra. Mark is also the project lead of the Lettuce Redis driver and R2DBC spec lead.

Greg Yantz, Database Administrator, Financial Network, Inc.

Greg is a Database Administrator at Financial Network Incorporated. He moved from being a Unix/Linux (primarily Solaris) administrator 4 years ago. As an SA, he was a generalist who learned a bit of this and that on a wide range of topics, and as a DBA, has continued that tradition. His personal goal as a DBA is to make his environment as robust and low-maintenance as possible, making it possible for a small team to be able to work on larger projects (and read Usenet. Old SA joke). He enjoys reading and hiking, and aspires to someday defeat his kids at an FPS.

Kathryn Sizemore, Senior MySQL/MariaDB Database Administrator, Datavail

Kathryn is a Senior MySQL/MariaDB Database Administrator at Datavail with eight years of experience with database administration, database architecture, and database migration. She is a MariaDB Certified Engineer specializing in automation, scalability, administration, and production support of AWS, High Availability, MariaDB/MySQL, Galera Clusters, Master-Master, and Master-Replica architectures. Additionally, Kathryn is an Amazon Web Services Solutions Architect Associate. At Datavail, she provides expert MySQL/MariaDB and cloud solutions for customer’s environments. In her spare time, she enjoys running, cooking and spending time with her Pomeranian Marshall.

Matt Asay, Cloud and Open Source Executive, Amazon Web Services

Matt Asay is a Principal at Amazon Web Services. Formerly, Asay was Head of Developer Ecosystem for Adobe. Prior to Adobe, Asay held a range of roles at open source companies: VP of business development, marketing, and community at MongoDB; VP of business development at real-time analytics company Nodeable (acquired by Appcelerator); VP of business development and interim CEO at mobile HTML5 start-up Strobe (acquired by Facebook); COO at Canonical, the Ubuntu Linux company; and head of the Americas at Alfresco, a content management startup. Asay is an emeritus board member of the Open Source Initiative (OSI) and holds a J.D. from Stanford, where he focused on open source and other IP licensing issues.

Mary Grygleski, Senior Developer Advocate, IBM

Mary Grygleski

Mary is a Senior Developer Advocate at IBM with the Liberty/Websphere team, focusing on Open Liberty, Microprofile, Jakarta EE, OpenJ9, Java, Open Source, Cloud, and Distributed Systems. She transitioned from Unix/C to Java around 2000 and has never looked back since then. She considers herself a polyglot and loves to continue learning new and better ways to solve real-life problems. She is an active tech community builder outside of her day job, and currently the President of the Chicago Java Users Group (CJUG), as well as a co-organizer for several IBM-sponsored meetup groups in the Greater Chicago area.

Rob Hedgpeth, Director, Developer Relations, MariaDB

Rob Hedgpeth has been slinging code since the early 2000’s. Like many others, he started his journey by building pretty horrendous looking websites. Fortunately, for the world, he has since evolved and has branched out to a variety of projects across web, desktop, mobile, and IoT. Now as a developer evangelist for MariaDB, Rob gets to combine his love for technology with his mission to fuel developers’ curiosity and passion. In his free time, Rob just tries to keep up with his wife, infant son, and two crazy dogs!

Rick Vasquez, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, Western Digital

Rick is a hands-on technical practitioner with real world experience in some of the largest open source database deployments in the world. Translating technical and business requirements to the relevant groups is his passion.

Rick Greaves, SaaS Solutions Architect, Google

Born in the data center, raised in the cloud, Rick is a technical cloud solutions expert. He has been working closely with partners to develop large, scalable solutions to real world problems, specializing in kubernetes and application modernization best practices at scale.

Manjot Singh, Director of Customer Engineering, MariaDB

Manjot Singh is Global Manager of Managed Services at MariaDB. He has held highly technical roles like Systems Administrator, Database Administrator, Consultant, and Architect for Fortune 500 companies where he solved a wide range of problems for various verticals, including banking, credit card and payment processing, hospitals, inventory management, manufacturing, social media, to name a few.

Steve Hetzel, Principal Director, Cloud Engineering, Nuvalence

Steve has been in the technology industry for 15 years - where he’s had the opportunity to work for companies such as Disney, Samsung, Expedia and Google. Steve built his career with deep technical, hands-on experience in data engineering - working with platforms such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, etc. Designing, building, and implementing scalable and performant transactional databases and enterprise data warehouses with applications systems has always been a passion. As his career progressed, -he extended this knowledge laterally by focusing on integrating data platforms with DevOps methodologies, automation, containerization (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS and GCP).

As a technical leader at Nuvalence, Steve is focused on leading project teams, architecting scalable cloud application/data platforms, and evangelizing cloud native development and operational best practices.

Gabriela Ferrara, Developer Advocate, Google

Gabi is a Developer Advocate at Google Cloud and a passionate Software Engineer. She likes simplifying complex systems, and believes abstractions are best when they can be understood in a real life example. She’s driven to go beyond DBA lingo to make database and storage technology more accessible to software developers.
